What are the benefits of a regular training routine for a companion parrot?
Parrots are highly intelligent, and for this reason they can easily become destructive and display negative behaviours if they are not allowed to use their brain on a frequent basis.
Encouraging a companion parrot to forage for their food, and giving them plenty of environmental enrichment opportunities (for example toys or shredding materials) can help with this behaviour, but encouraging your parrot to engage their brain and problem solve / learn new skills at least once per day can have such huge benefits.
Training doesn’t need to be complicated, and we can all do it from home ourselves. Using a clicker and target stick can be an excellent way of easily incorporating training into your daily routine, and can lead to many other learned skills such as free flight.
