The Blue-throated breeding season is off to a heartwarming start with the arrival of chicks! During regular monitoring, our partner Fundación CLB discovered three eggs in late December, marking the beginning of this year’s nesting season. Now, those eggs have hatched, and the chicks are a promising addition to the Critically Endangered population, with only a few hundred Blue-throated Macaws remaining in the wild.

To protect these vulnerable new chicks in the wild, Fundación CLB has installed protective metal skirts around nesting trees to keep predators like snakes and feral cats at bay. Alongside Gran Mojo Reserve Rangers, Fundación CLB will continue to monitor and support the young macaws, ensuring they grow strong and healthy.Â
Our partners are navigating Bolivia’s vast palm savannahs, working tirelessly to secure the species’ future. From providing artificial nests to performing health checks, their efforts are essential in helping these young macaws thrive in their natural habitat. Despite challenges like remote nest locations accessible only by horseback during seasonal floods, the team’s dedication never falters.
