We’re delighted to introduce our new Indonesian foundation on World Parrot Day.
Yasyan Konservasi Paruh Bengkok – WPT’s Indonesian representation – enables us to have an even bigger impact in the region, partnering with other organisations and forestry departments to expand conservation action for parrots in the region.
WPT’s Indonesia Regional Director Charlotte Foxhall says, “Indonesia is still a hotspot for trapping and the illegal wildlife trade. Through the foundation, we are able to implement field conservation programs for endangered species across the region, conducting research on the status of their populations and helping to build capacity to support the confiscation of more parrots from illegal trade routes.”
Headed by Fahmi Agustiadi, WPT’s Indonesia Parrot Welfare Specialist, the foundation also seeks to support those on the frontline of illegal trade with the best practices for immediate care and first aid following confiscations.
Support is also provided for the rehabilitation and release of parrots trafficked across the region, ensuring they can find their way home.
