In early 2020, the World Parrot Trust’s rescue facility Kiwa Centre in the United Kingdom received 50 Grey Parrots seized from illegal trafficking in the European Union. The birds had been held at a zoo in France after their confiscation.

The Kiwa Centre is now working to return them to the wild in Africa. The centre aims to continue rehabilitating confiscated parrots into breeding-for-release programs, repatriation projects, or ambassador bird programs in collaboration with zoos to contribute significantly to the conservation of threatened parrot species worldwide. The facility is being developed to function as an emergency base for future confiscations in the EU or UK, to allow the immediate treatment, care and rehabilitation of trafficked parrots.
